Expired products, GST questions raise concerns over Salt Lake grocery store- GoRamu

A grocery store in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area is facing serious allegations from customers over the sale of expired food products and possible billing irregularities. Several complaints have surfaced against GoRamu, a store located in CF Block, Salt Lake, which markets itself online as a “one stop online grocery store in Kolkata” offering over 2,500 products, discounted prices below MRP, and free home delivery on all orders.

According to customers who approached Taaza TV, expired packaged food items were allegedly sold by the store. One consumer claimed to have purchased a packet of cookies which, upon checking the following day, was found to have expired a few months ago. Another complaint involved a packet of bhujia reportedly found to be 4–6 months past its expiry date.

Customers also raised concerns over the condition of certain products, including cold drink bottles that appeared dented, scratched, and improperly handled, indicating possible issues with storage or inventory management.

The matter escalated when one customer reviewed their purchase bill and noticed GST had allegedly been charged on all items. However, according to the customer, no GSTIN number was mentioned on the bill. Upon independently searching online for the store’s GST registration details, the customer reportedly found the GST status listed as “suspended.”

When the customer attempted to return the expired goods, the store staff allegedly denied the claims and initially stated that the products had not been purchased from GoRamu. However, after the customer threatened to escalate the issue to authorities and file formal complaints, the store reportedly agreed to issue a refund.

Taaza TV has received multiple complaints from consumers alleging similar issues with products purchased from the same store. Supporting proof, including product images, expiry dates, and billing details, is uploaded along with this report.

The allegations have raised concerns among local residents about food safety, billing transparency, and quality control in neighbourhood retail outlets. Authorities are yet to issue an official response on the matter.

Consumers are advised to carefully check expiry dates, packaging condition, and invoice details before making purchases.
